Independent architecture practice

About us

Yuka & Eagle is an independent architecture practice based in Birmingham, led by Antonia Bengono. We design homes and places for communities and businesses, working across the UK and on projects in Europe and Africa.

Meet the practice

The practice

Architecture starts
with how life happens.

Warm residential living space designed around everyday life

Everyday life

We care about the part buildings play in everyday life. A home may need to change as a family grows; a community building may need to bring people together while accommodating different needs. Understanding those lives and ambitions gives our work its direction.

Meeting space for conversation and collaborative design

Working together

We take time to get to know what matters to you, including what you value about a place and what you hope to change. We bring ideas, ask questions, and explore possibilities with you. Through drawings and conversation, we help you see what different choices could offer and develop the design together.

A wider perspective

Our connections with Africa and Europe bring an awareness of different ways of living and building. We approach each project with curiosity about its surroundings, its climate, and the people who will use it. Alongside these considerations, we work through questions of materials, cost and construction, giving the ideas we develop together a practical foundation.

Our name

Yuka & Eagle brings together our connections with Africa and Europe, and the different perspectives we draw from both.

Roots and belonging

Yuka represents roots and a sense of belonging. It reminds us to value where we come from and to understand the places in which we build.

The wider view

Eagle offers a wider view, encouraging us to look beyond the familiar and imagine what else might be possible.

For us, these ideas belong together. Understanding what gives a place its character provides a starting point for change.

We want our designs to grow from that understanding, while giving people room to bring something of their own to the spaces they inhabit.
